Abstract
947,501. Making electrical components. MOLDING ENGINEERS Inc. Jan. 2, 1961, No. 104/61. Heading B3A. In forming the stator 10 of a rotary switch &c., a contact element 21 is formed in a strip 19 of phosphor-bronze &c., a body 12 of insulating material is moulded about the element 21, and excess material is cut from the element and body 12 in a further operation. The strip is fed to a punch 20 for forming the pattern of perforations, Fig. 6, constituting the element 21. Locating holes 22 and slits 23 facilitate coiling the strip for transportation, and tabs 29 divert the flow of moulding material. Alternatively, the mould 25 may be located adjacent the punch, making coiling unnecessary. After moulding the body 12 of fibrous glass-reinforced alkyd resins, thermoplastic materials &c., the strip may be coiled at 32 for transportation or fed to an adjacent tool 31 for cutting the contacts 13 and body 12 to final form, Fig. 2. A plurality of tools 20, 25, 31 may form a number of stators simultaneously. The contacts 13 may be plated before or after the moulding operations.
