Abstract
947,028. Air compressors. M. G. MARTINEZ. Sept. 21, 1962 [May 30, 1962], No. 35993/62. Addition to 930,889. Heading FIN. An air compressor comprises a piston 10 disposed within a cylinder 11, the intake of air into the cylinder and the discharge of compressed air from the cylinder being controlled by a rotary sleeve valve which forms a substantially cylindrical hollow gudgeon-pin 14, the rotary movements of which are effected by the angular movements of a connecting rod 12 connecting the piston 10 with a driven crank-shaft 13; the pin 14 is open at both its ends and has apertures 16 in its wall and a recessed portion 17 on the outer surface of the wall so arranged as to be moved into and out of register with corresponding openings 18 and 20 and 21 and 22, respectively, to open and close communications between the interior of the cylinder and the air inlet port 23 and the air outlet port 24 upon rotation of the pin 14 by movement of the connecting rod 12. The latter is attached to the gudgeon-pin 14 by a bolt 15 and the pin is in two parts 25, 26, Fig. 4 (not shown), to reduce air leakage around the pin during the downstroke of the piston.
