946,534. Stuffing-box substitutes. GITS BROS. MFG. CO. Nov. 26, 1962 [Aug. 2, 1962], No. 44648/62. Heading F2B. In a shaft seal 30 in which a seal ring 18 urged into facial sealing contact with a collar 13 on the shaft 12 is housed in a U-cross-section annular metal casing 31 press-fitted in a bore 14 in the shaft housing 11, the ring 18 is held against rotation in the casing 31 by two axiallyextending lugs 33 on the inner surface of the outer peripheral wall 31c engaging grooves 18b in the ring. The lugs 33 are spot-welded or otherwise bonded to the wall 31c. The ring 18, which is of carbon, is urged against the collar 13 by a spring 20 and sealed to the casing by an 0-ring 19.
