Abstract
946,206. Typewriters. LAMSON PARAGON Ltd. March 1, 1961 [March 16, 1960], No. 9274/60. Heading B6F. Apparatus for feeding continuous stationery in a typewriter by means of endless-belt pin-feed devices, comprises an endless band which is fed one revolution for each form length or multiple thereof fed, the band carrying apertures which are sensed photo-electrically to actuate electrical control means for electrical solenoid driving means for the pin-feed belts so that the stationery is fed forward to lines determined by the apertures on the band. Brackets a, Fig. 2, support the apparatus on the typewriter carriage, the left-hand bracket carrying a solenoid j the armature of which is attached to a plate k having inclined recesses l carrying free balls, so that when the solenoid is energized the armature is attracted and given a rotary movement which is terminated when the armature opens a switch 29 so that the armature returns to its initial position under spring pressure. The angular movement of the armature is transmitted through gearing m, n, p to a shaft c driving the endless-belt pin-feed devices, to effect line spacing. The shaft c extends across the carriage and at the right-hand side drives through gearing, a shaft 10, Fig. 3, carrying a drum with pins x which engage a central line of apertures 13a in the control band 13, Fig. 4, to move the band in synchronism with the feed of the stationery. By axial movement of the shaft 10 by means of a knob 12 the shafts 10, c, can be decoupled so as to permit setting of the tape in relation to the stationery. Furthermore, the stationery can be fed rearwardly by means of the knob 12 to erase an error of typing. The band 13 carries apertures 16 corresponding to stationery lines on which information is to be entered, and as each aperture passes in front of a lamp 15, a photo-electric device 16 is energized and causes the current to be cut-off from the solenoid j and the step-by-step feed of the stationery to be stopped. During typing of, e.g. an address, the solenoid j is energized to effect line spacing by the closure of a carriagereturn contact. Thereafter, operation of a manual key causes line spacing to continue automatically until a perforation in the band 13 is sensed, whereupon the automatic feed is stopped at a position where data is to be typed on the form. If it is not possible to include all the information desired on one form, it is necessary to skip the address lines on the next form and to feed the stationery to the first information printing position on that form. For this purpose, an additional hole 35 is provided in the band so that light from the lamp 15 actuates a second photo-electric device to cause continued operation of the feed despite the sensing of certain holes 16, Fig. 4, until the required line determined by a handset switch is reached. Suitable electric circuits for the operations are described. Paper guides.-The stationery is guided transversely by angle-shaped members 18, Fig. 6 (not shown), which are adjustably looked to crossbars 20 by pivoted wedgebars 22. Specification 900,454 is referred to.
