Abstract

945,876. Valves. EVERED & CO. Ltd. Aug. 8, 1960 [Aug. 8, 1959], No. 27181/59. Heading F2V. A constant volume gas governor, comprising a body 10 affording a duct for the flow of gas between an inlet 12 and an outlet 20, and a regulating valve including members 22, 23, movable relatively to each other to vary the effective area afforded by a valve port between the inlet and outlet, and actuating means 30 responsive to the rate of flow of gas to effect the relative movement in a direction to reduce or increase the effective area of the port according to whether the rate of flow is above or below a predetermined value, is characterized in that the port comprises a plurality of holes 27a-27d, 28a, 28b, and 29a, 29b, these holes being circular and having centres which are spaced apart longitudinally in the direction of relative movement and being also offset transversely of this direction, longitudinally successive holes being over-. lapped with each other and the size or number of the holes at each of the longitudinally spaced positions within the boundaries of the port as a whole being such as to provide an approximately constant increment of relative displacement necessary to restore the rate of flow of gas to a predetermined value for a given pressure change throughout the working range of pressure. The movable valve member 23 is provided with bearing rings 25. The flow-responsive member 30 works with clearance in a sleeve 31 and may be partially by-passed through an annular space 35 by an adjustable regulating screw 37 which cooperates with a hole 38 in the sleeve.
