Abstract

945,410. Feeding sheets. TELEFUNKEN PATENTVERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. July 6, 1961 [July 9, 1960], No. 24485/61. Heading B6B. [Also in Division B8] Letters 19, 20, overlapping due to failure of an apparatus designed to effect a complete separation, are ejected from the single file stream by an apparatus (not shown) controlled by signals from detectors 15, 16 associated with suction transport belts 2, 3, the arrangement being such that the ejecting apparatus is operative only when two letters, one adhering to each of the belts, are passing the detectors at the same time. If more than two letters run in simultaneously a horizontal conveyer belt 12, moving at the same speed as the suction belts 2, 3 carries the extra letter or letters along with the two letters adhering to the suction belts so that all the letters are ejected simultaneously. An alternative embodiment (Figs. 6, 7, not shown) separates the letters adhering to the suction belts by twisting the belts apart instead of separating the belts progressively as shown. The detectors 15, 16 may be fluid pressure responsive (Fig. 5, not shown), photoelectrically or electrostatically operated or may be constituted by electric switch operating mechanical scanning mechanism (Fig. 4, not shown).
