Abstract

944,709. Diaphragm pistons. J. MERCIER. Dec. 13, 1960 [Dec. 16, 1959], No. 42878/60. Addition to 799,688. Heading F2T. [Also in Division F1] A deformable partition 24 having a circular periphery for application against a circular part of the inner wall 11 of an accumulator comprises a first annular region 23 which is at or adjacent the peripheral edge of the partition and has secured thereto the cylindrical portion 28 of a supporting member of resilient material having a rim portion 27 for anchorage to the wall of the accumulator, a second annular region 22 contiguous to the first region and of a constant wall thickness substantially equal to that of the first region, and a third region 21 contiguous to the second region and having a wall thickness which progressively decreases with increasing distance from the peripheral edge. The cylindrical portion of the supporting member, which may be of metal or plastic, is moulded into the partition, which is of rubber or synthetic plastic, and the rim portion 27 is clamped between the wall 11 and an end cover 31 by a threaded collar 35. The cover has a port 33 for the passage of gas and the cylindrical wall extends to a hemispherical portion 12 having a valve 16 for the passage of liquid, such as oil, into and out of the accumulator. The second annular region 22 of the partition has a length D at least twice, and preferably three times, its thickness T which is substantially the same as the thickness of the region 23.
