Abstract

943,974. Guided platform hoists. L. EVANS, and L. R. L. EVANS, [trading as LENSON ENGINEERING CO.]. June 29, 1962 [July 22, 1961], No. 26642/61. Heading B8H. The carriage 3 of a hoist, comprising inclined guide rails 2 mounted on a wheeled chassis 1, is provided with an operative's platform 20 and a load-supporting platform 21, the movement of the carriage along the guide rails being controlled by foot-operated switches on the platform. The carriage is raised by a cable 36 and an hydraulic ram operated by a pump 28 driven by an electric motor 29 and an accumulator 30 supported on the chassis, and is lowered under gravity, the flow of fluid from the ram cylinder 32 being controlled by an electromagnetic valve. Control of the motor 29 and of the electromagnetic valve is performed by two foot-operated switches on the platform 20. The chassis 1 is supported at one end on wheels 12 and at the other end is provided with feet 13 and with castors 16 mounted on a spindle 14 which is rotatably supported at the lower end of the guide rails 2. As the carriage 3 reaches its lowermost position, it engages pins 18 on arms 17 secured to the spindle 14, thereby rotating the spindle and lowering the castors 16 to raise the feet 13 from the ground. It is stated in the Provisional Specification that the two platforms may be relatively movable.
