Abstract

Linear dihydroquinacridones are made by heating a di-ester of a 2:5-diarylamino-3:6-dihydroterephthalic acid in the presence of a polyphosphoric acid. The esters may be methyl, ethyl, propyl esters and the arylamino groups may be derived from aniline or its o- or p-chloro-, 2:4-dichloro-, o-bromo-, o-fluoro-, o-methyl- or p-methoxyderivatives. Examples are given. The products may be oxidised to linear quinacridones (see Division C4). Specifications 828,051 and 828,052 also are referred to.ALSO:Linear quinacridones are made by oxidizing linear dihydroquinacridones prepared by heating a di-ester of a 2 : 5-diarylamino-3 : 6-dihydro-terephthalic acid in the presence of a polyphosphoric acid. The oxidizing agent specified is nitrobenzene-m-sodium sulphonate in aqueous alcoholic caustic soda solution. Examples are given. Specifications 828,051 and 828,052 also are referred to.
