Abstract

942,764. Paper bags. H. J. BOK. Aug. 9, 1960 [Aug. 10, 1959; Nov. 13, 1959; Dec. 1, 1959], No. 27610/60. Heading B8K. A flat bag is provided with a seal which is constituted by strips of adhesive tape separately disposed opposite each other on the outer walls of the bag in an area along and extending beyond the closing edge of the bag with their adhesive surface facing each other, the arrangement being such that closure of the bag may be effected by contacting the strips which may subsequently be separated to open the bag. The adhesive strips 1 may be extended, Fig. 4, to form pull lips 6, free of adhesive, for opening the bag, the edges of which may be seam-welded together at 9, Fig. 5. To achieve the effect of the ends of the lips being free of adhesive they may be covered with strips of other material or folded only. The length of the sealing strips may be slightly greater than the width of the bag to improve air-tightness. Fig. 11A shows pull strips 29, 30 between the walls 36 of the bag and the strips 27, 33 of adhesive tape, the pull strips in this case being pulled towards the bottom of the bag. These pull strips may be tabs, not extending the whole width of the bag. The ends of the pull strips may be folded under, or cover strip material may be used, to prevent their adherence to the bag walls. The pulling tabs may be formed so that they contain loops 68, Fig. 18B, to facilitate grasping by the fingers; or pleats may be formed in the tabs, as shown at 82, 83, Fig. 25. For certain bag contents, e.g. textiles, the opening need not be completely sealed but may have two or more pairs of short sealing strips, each with a pull tab in the middle.
