Abstract

942,081. Roll top roofs for road vehicles; railway vehicle roofs. R. CAILLET. Jan. 12, 1961 [Jan. 19, 1960], No. 1297/61. Headings B7B and B7L. A railway or road vehicle roof which may be collapsed and rolled around a rear positioned roller comprises a forward section 1, Figs. 1, 3, and other sections 2, 3, 4, 5 and so on of varying lengths measured longitudinally of the vehicle, Fig. 2, which are connected to the forward section and to one another by hinges 13, 15 and pins passed through holes 14, 16. The Fig. 2 sections are provided with rain water gutters 9 2 shaped as shown, and with water shedding sloping sides 11, 12. In the roof closed position the sections are held together by pins 18 co-operating with holes 19 as shown in Fig. 5 and the sections are provided with rollers or edge reinforcements running or sliding on guide rails external to the vehicle. The winding up drum 21, Fig. 6 (not shown), may be manually or motor rotated through suitable gearing, but it should be noted that the roof sections must be of such dimensions as to nest when wound up on the drum.
