A one-way clutch or brake, which is disengaged for both directions of rotation below a predetermined speed and may be used for controlling reaction members of planetary trains, e.g. the overdrive train of Specification 842,121, or in a cycle planetary hub gear, comprises wedging balls or rollers B carried by a driving disc K which balls are urged outwardly by centrifugal force, against the action of springs S, into engagement between a plate A fast with and angularly adjustable on the disc K and a driven drum R. The plate A may be adjusted angularly by screws F. For braking reaction members the drum R is fixed as releasably braked. A dust excluding felt washer may be provided between the disc K and drum R.
