An elevatable roof 1 for a vehicle is supported in a raised position by pairs of hinged side panels 4a, 4b and 5a, 5b carried by the roof 3. Tension springs 12 maintain the side panels from folding outwardly to the lowered position and also hold the side panels against the end panels which are also formed from pairs of hinged panels which fold inwardly on collapsing.
