Abstract

941,234. Waxing devices and stop motions for winding machines. SCHWEITER ENGINEERING WORKS Ltd. Nov. 17,1961 [Nov. 18, 1960], No.41327/61. Headings D1D and D1F. Device for supplying wax to a yarn moving between a cop S and a wind-up bobbin C, includes a rotatable and axially displaceable shaft 10 (Fig. 3) carrying a block of paraffin wax, drive means for driving the shaft and means for locking the shaft in a predetermined axial position when the wax block becomes worn to a critical extent. As described, one such device P (Fig. 7) is provided for each winding unit A of a multi unit cross-winder which is mounted on a rotating table 35 and which has several control units D, cop replacing units &c., about the circumference of the table. Shaft 10 is driven through pinion 11a, gear 7,belt 9 (Fig. 7), reduction gearing 4 and belt 6, from the grooved winding drum 5. When the thread F breaks or the cop S runs out, the yarn detector 36 (Fig. 7) is released and thus releases a three armed lever 30. This causes lever 38 to swing to the right (Fig. 7) and thus allows spring 43 to pull shaft 42, which drives drum 5, away from a driving belt 49 and against a friction braking wall of an aperture 48. Also arm 30b of lever 30, when the winding unit A reaches the next control unit, contacts switch 23 and starts cam-shaft 27, of the control unit, rotating. Cam 52 through rod 54 and a three armed lever 55 causes a two armed lever 15 (Fig. 3) to raise the wax block 12 off the thread F and a plate 14 against which it is normally spring pressed, and causes a yarn brake 57 and yarn cleaner 58 to open. The yarn fault is automatically corrected and the rod 54 releases the lever 55 which allows the above parts 12, 57, 58 and 42 to return to their working position. Other cams on the shaft 27 may actuate other devices including a shaft 50 which by means of a disc 50a reverses the bobbin C to obtain a yarn end for knotting. When the block 12 has been worn down to a cr itical extent an end 20c of a pivoted lever 20 engages a groove 11c between the pinion 11a and hub 11b. The other end of the lever 20 (Fig. 7) now prevents the three armed lever 30, when the next yarn fault occurs, from revolving into the switch 23 actuating position but instead revolves into an intermediate position and actuates a switch 31 which lights up a lamp 22 to inform the operator that the wax block needs replacing.
