A toy locomotive comprises a chassis 12, a bogie truck 20 beneath each end of the chassis, a motor 14 on the chassis with its shaft 16 extending longitudinally of the chassis and over the trucks, a pulley 22 on the shaft over the centre of each bogie truck, each truck having axles 24, 25 and wheels 26, 28, a pulley 30 on each of the trucks driving the wheels, annular bearings for swivel mounting the trucks beneath the motor pulleys and a rubber drive band 36 between the motor and truck pulleys, the band also holding the truck to the chassis at the bearings. The shaft 16 removably rests in bearings 46 open at the top on a pedestal 84 having at the lower end an annular recess which provides a swivel mounting for an annular bearing on the bogie truck. The bearing may have two slightly raised parts to allow for slight rocking of the bogie relative to the chassis. Stops on the end of the pedestal extend into notches in bow springs 54. A shaft 38 rests in a bearing 45 open at the bottom on the bogie truck and carries a hypoid bevel gear 40 which meshes with a bevel gear 44 on the rock shaft 25. The bevel gear carries one half of the pulley 30 which interfits with a similar half on a second gear 40 on to axle 24. The axles pass through apertures in a pair of bow springs 54 which conduct electricity from an insulated rail through a metal wheel 28 to a conductor connected to a D.C. motor with a permanent field magnet 48. The other bogie being reversed conducts electricity from the other rail to the motor. One pair of wheels of each bogie is made of plastics material. The body, chassis 12, bearings 46 and bumper may be moulded from plastics material, the chassis having detents 72 which engage in holes in the body. The chassis has suspended, between sides 80, the field magnet 48 and mounts a weight in the form of a block of metal 82. The bogie truck may be moulded in one piece from plastics material with a top wall and annual bearing and mounting for a coupling. The hypoid bevel gears 40 are moulded integrally with the halves 30 of the pulley from rigid plastics material. The axles and shafts are made of metal.
