Abstract

The invention comprises stabilised organic nitrosoamine-containing compositions characterized in that they contain less than 2% by weight of water and contain as stabiliser an oxide, hydroxide or carbonate of calcium, barium, zinc or magnesium in powder form. Nitrosoamines include those having two or more nitrosoamine groups, e.g. di-N-nitrosopiperazine, trimethylenetrinitrosoamine and, in particular, dinitrosopenta methylane triamine. The efficiency of the stabiliser, which is most effectively a carbonate, particularly calcium carbonate, increases as its particle size decreases, an average particle size of less than 2m being preferred. It is also preferable to use 10 to 150%, especially 20 to 150%, by weight of nitrosoamine of the stabilizer and to have less than 1% of water in the composition. The compositions may be prepared by stirring the nitrosoamine with the stabilizer in suspension in water, filtering and drying or by mixing said components in, for example, an homogeniser. It is desirable to include, preferably as 1 to 50% by weight of nitrosoamine, a dedusting agent, e.g. a wax or oil, which may be added to said suspension, preferably in conjunction with a dispersing agent, e.g. a fatty alcohol/ethylene oxide condensation product or a dinaphthylmethane disulphonic acid. The blowing efficiency of the compositions is improved by using finely divided nitrosoamine, prepared, for example, by the addition of a surface active agent prior to nitrosation. The examples illustrate the stabilization of dinitrosopentamethylene tetramine with calcium carbonate, polyisobutylene (dedusting agent) and fatty alcohol/ethylene oxide condensation product.
