[Also in Division B4] A welding electrode having a coating formed of at least two different compositions disposed in segmented array around a core wire is made by pressing together segments 11, 12, 13 and 21, 22, 23, Fig. 1, of the different compositions to form a cylindrical block 1 with a central bore 2, loading one or more of the blocks into a coating press, Fig. 2, through which a core wire 8 is fed and extruding a coating on to the core wire. The segments are formed by individual pressings or by pressing a cylinder and cutting into segments. The segments may have colours indicative of their composition. A number of the blocks 1 are located in the cylinder 5 of the coating press around a guide tube 6 for the core wire and are extruded by a piston 7.
