Abstract

939,819. Insulators. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRO-CERAMIQUE. Feb. 14, 1961 [Feb. 24, 1960], No. 5431/61. Class 36. An insulator has a tension-resistant elongated insulating core 1, a metal fitting 3 connected to each end of the core, a hollow insulating envelope 2 surrounding the core, and in the annular space between the core and envelope has a plurality of spaced rings 7 of insulating material each bonded to both core and envelope. As described the rings are of compressed gelatinized cellulose and are bonded with " Araldite " (Registered Trade Mark) to e.g. a ceramic envelope and resin-bonded glass fibre core. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the rings are each in the form of a thin layer of an elastomer such as a rubber containing a resin resulting from the reaction of alkaline polysulphides with a hydrocarbon, and are separated by fillings of insulating material. The insulators described have end rings 4 to keep the envelopes under compression.
