938,563. Automatic voltage control. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 22, 1960 [Dec. 2, 1959], No. 41002/59. Class 38 (4). In an automatic voltage control arrangement for providing a reference voltage for a motor speed control system a variable reference voltage is derived from a potentiometer P1, having a slider positioned by a manually controlled member, connected across Zener diodes Z1, Z2 and compared at the input to an amplifier A1 having a positive gain, with the voltage across a load LD. The output of the amplifier A1, representative of the direction of the load voltage from the voltage set by the potentiometer P1 is limited by clamping circuits formed by diodes- Z3, Z4, resistors R7, R8 and potentiometers P2, P3. The level of output signal at which the clamping circuits operate is set by potentiometers P2, P3. The limited output signal is fed to an' integrating circuit comprising amplifier A2 of negative gain having reactive feedback through a capacitor C1. Variation in the reference voltage, due to movement of the member, causes the load voltage to change at a rate limited by the clamping circuits.
