Abstract

A cold-curable two-part system silicone rubberforming preparation consists of two separately packed compositions, one of which comprises a hydroxyl-terminated diorganopolysiloxane (a) in admixture with a cross-linking agent (c), and the other comprises a tri-alkyl- or tri-arylend-blocked diorganopolysiloxane (b) in admixture with a condensation catalyst (d). The Si-bonded organic radicals in (a) and (b) may be alkyl, aryl or aralkyl, but at least 50% of the R radicals should be methyl radicals. Crosslinking agents (c) specified are silicic acid esters and siloxanes containing Si-bonded hydrogen. Condensation catalysts (d) specified are acetic acid, dibutylamine, chloroplatinic acid, lead octoate, zirconium acetyl-acetonate, tin oleate, lead tetraethyl and dibutyl tindilaurate and -monoacetate. Fillers, e.g. quartz meal, iron oxide, calcium carbonate, baryta, silicas (aerogel and fume), carbon black, phthalocyanine, sulphur and polyvinyl chloride; dyestuffs; plasticizers, e.g. a polyester of phthalic acid; and aromatizing and flavouring agents, e.g. peppermint, aniseed, eucalyptus and lemon oils, may also be added. A suitable preparation consists of the following compositions: A contains 100 pts. of a OH-terminated dimethylpolysiloxane, 11 pts. of a trimethyl-end-blocked methyl hydrogen polysiloxane, 50-100 pts. of fillers and additives; B contains 100 pts. of trimethyl-end-blocked dimethylpolysilane, 4 pts. of dibutyl tin dilaurate, and 50-100 pts. of fillers. A and B can then be mixed in varying proportions best suited to a particular purpose. Examples are given. Uses: For sealing and casting purposes and for taking dental impressions.
