Abstract

938,168. Adjustable seats. KRESTIS ANSTALT. May 2, 1961 [Oct. 25, 1960], No. 15885/61. Class 52 (2). [Also in Group XXV] Stay bar 4 and return spring 15 for adjustably inclinable back 2 of a vehicle seat are housed in side seat frame member 1. The bar 4 may be serrated and wedged into engagement with a stationary serrated block 7 by a slidable spring pressed wedge 9. The bar 4 is released from downward pressure by turning lever 14, and therewith crank arm 12, to withdraw wedge 9 and connecting link 11. This clamping arrangement may be provided on each side of the seat for simultaneous actuation through a common shaft 13. Alternatively, a single wedge 9 may be released directly by hand (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown). A clamping arrangement employing rollers and inclined braking surfaces may be used to secure a non-serrated bar by friction (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown). In another form (Figs. 7 and 8, not shown), bar 4 is secured by one of three pins projecting from a fixed plate into one of a series of holes in the bar. The spacings of the holes and pins are such that, at any one time, only one pin is aligned with a hole.
