938,009. Yielding mine arches. K. T. JASPER. Dec. 15, 1959 [Dec. 27, 1958; March 3, 1959; March 10, 1959], No. 42539/59. Class 20 (2). [Also in Group XXI] In a mine roof supporting structure comprising two arches, Fig. 2, each composed of segments 10, 11 interconnected by yieldable joints, the opposed segments of the arches are connected together by transverse members 12 and/or 13 which may be in the form of an open lattice construction, see Fig. 13 (not shown). Each arch may consist of U-shaped segments 10, 11, Fig. 4, clamped together by a stirrup member 15 or 15a acting through friction pads 16. In a modification, Fig. 8, the segments 10, 11 are yieldingly connected by a clamping bond 112 positioned by a wedge 113 or wedge and pin means, see Figs. 10 and 11 (not shown). The segments may be yieldingly joined by elbowshaped intermediate elements, see Figs. 12-17 and 20 (not shown). Again, the segments may consist of H-section elements connected in staggered juxtaposition by a wedged sleeve, see Figs. 18 and 19 (not shown).
