Abstract
937,687. Extracting flexible rings. ROLLSROYCE Ltd. July 26, 1962 [July 27, 1961], No. 27336/61. Class 61. [Also in Group XXVI] A tool 10 for extracting a flexible ring, such as a sealing ring 20, from a groove 21 comprises a locating member 11, and a rod 14 offset from the longitudinal axis of the member, one end of the rod being provided with a hook or hooks 15 adapted, when relative rotation takes place between the rod and the locating member, to be moved to a position in which one end or ends thereof lies outside the cross-sectional area of the locating member so as to pierce the sealing ring and adapted, after piercing the sealing ring, to be moved so as to lie within the cross-sectional area of the member. The locating member 11 is in the form of a tube closed at each end and provided with a knurled handle 19. The rod 14 is also provided with a knurled handle 17 and relative rotation between the rod and tube is limited to one direction only by means of a spring 18. The hook 15 is fixed in the rod so that when the tube 11 is located in a bore as shown in Fig. 2, and the rod rotated, the hook pierces the sealing ring, continued rotation causing the latter to. be withdrawn from part of the groove, the remaining portion of the ring being removed from the groove when the tube is withdrawn from the bore. In a modification a double-pronged hook may be used.
