Abstract
937,505. Hinges. R. E JAMES, and E.N. MCDON. ALD. Oct. 17, 1960, No. 35480/60. Class 65 (2). [Also in Groups XXXII and XXXIII] Relates to hinge units 30' Fig. 1, for supporting a vehicle door 22 from the vehicle body (see Group XXXII). As shown in Fig. 4, each hinge unit 30 comprises spaced hinges 36, 38 inclined to the vertical and secured to the vehicle and connected by parallel arms 32, 34 to spaced inclined hinges 42, 44 secured to a strap 40. The latter, Fig. 7, carries guide members 52 slidable in longitudinally extending tracks 54 secured to the door. A latch means 58 for locking the hinge unit 30 in extended position as the door is slid along the guides, comprises a roller 72 pivoted to links 70 and 64 in turn pivoted to the strap 40 at 68 and to an extension arm 60 on the arm 34. As the door is initially swung open the links 64, 70 move the roller 72 towards the strap whereafter as the door is slid to the open position parallel to the doorway the roller 72 is engaged by a cam track 80 on the door so that collapse of the hinged unit is prevented.
