Abstract

937,080. Bearings. SULZER FRERES S.A. June 1, 1961 [Aug. 16, 1960], No. 19864/61. Class 12 (1). A plain bearing has a bush inserted with clearance in a housing, said clearance being adjustable by axial forces applied to the bush to effect sealing. In an embodiment the bush 3, Fig. 1, is made of P.T.F.E. and sealing is facilitated by an elastic member 4. The axial force is applied by a screw-threaded ring 5 in the housing 2. In another embodiment the axial force is applied to slotted bronze bushes 11, Figs. 3 and 5, via rings 12, 13 having conical engagement faces thereon. In yet another embodiment the axial force is applied to a bush 15, Fig. 4, via an annular curved metal member 16. The Specification also described an embodiment where the axial force is via an elastic member and an embodiment having a bush with a U-shaped cross-section.
