Abstract

936,754. Pipe joints. BRITISH SHIP RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. April 16, 1962 [April 17, 1961], No. 13702/61. Class 99(1). A flexible pipe joint comprises two pipes the ends of which are connected to a flexible jointing member, e.g. bellows 1, carrying at its respective ends at least one track of at least one pair of inner and outer continuous transverse circular tracts, 16, 13 and 14, 15. A circumferential flexible element 12, 11 is interposed between each pair of tracks. Angular misalignment of the joint is effected in any plane through a predetermined centre which may be defined by frustospherical or frusto conical tracks. The flexible elements may comprise caged helical springs in tandem one set 11 taking the axial load with the joint in tension and the other set 12 the axial load with the joint in compression. In further embodiments pairs of tracks are formed one pair adjacent each end of, Fig. 4 (not shown), and two pairs adjacent the central region of, Fig. 5 (not shown), the bellows 1.
