Abstract
936,598. Coils for dynamo-electric machines. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 27, 1962 [Aug. 24, 1961], No. 30565/61. Class 35. Fractional turns in a field coil for a dynamoelectric machine are obtained by adjusting both the position of tappings 3, 5 on the closed electrically conducting ring 1 and the length of insulated connection 2, 4 which overlies the ring to form part of the coil. As shown, current flowing along connection 2 divides at 3 and flows equally through each half of the ring to 5, the whole current flowing in connection 4. The resultant flux is only produced by the current flowing in the connections since the resultant flux produced by the equal and opposite currents in the ring is zero. By altering the position of the tapping points relative to each other an effective flux can be produced by the difference current flowing in the ring and in this way other fractions of turns can be obtained.
