Abstract
935,755. Pneumatic tyres. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Feb. 3, 1960 [April 16, 1959], No. 12966/59. Class 144 (2). A pneumatic tyre has a carcase with at least two cross-laid layers 2, 3 of parallel steel cords in each sidewall subtending cord angles of from 35 to 85 degrees to the mid-circumferential plane, and one, or duplicate, breaker strip or strips 4 between the carcase layers and the tread, said strip or strips comprising parallel steel cords having a cord angle of from 2 to 20 degrees, to said plane in a single direction opposite, with respect to said plane, that of the adjacent carcase layer. The carcase may comprise a single ply folded around the bead wires 5 to provide two layers in each sidewall and three layers in the tread region. Alternatively, two carcase plies are folded around opposite bead cores so that their respective ends are interleaved in the tread region to provide four layers therein with the cords of the two innermost tread region layers parallel to each other and oppositely disposed to the cords of the two outermost tread region layers. In the above single ply carcase, one or more additional tread reinforcing strips of parallel cords may be inserted between and/or below the tread region layers.
