A colling apparatus consists of two or more cooling units which are each separately insulated and are separately mountable and which are each equipped with one or more Peltier units, a common power pack supplying all the units. A plurality of cooling units adapted to different functions may be assembled to form a refrigerator, and the common power pack may supply direct current to other domestic appliances also. The Peltier units may be connected in series with a common rectifier or may be arranged in parallel, each in series with a separate rectifier.
