Abstract

935,076. Positive clutches. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. Dec. 11, 1959 [Dec. 31, 1958], No. 42213/59. Class 80 (2). In order to prevent declutching under load, an internally splined sleeve 3 of a double dog clutch is slidable axially to engage dogs 4 formed on gears 5, and is formed with grooves 6, shallower than the splines and wider than the length of the dogs 4. In an engaged position a groove 6 receives a set of dogs 4 and a part ECDC<SP>1</SP> of each dog penetrates a spline tooth 8 so that withdrawal of the sleeve is prevented until the driving torque falls to zero. Instead of a line contact at D between each dog and spline tooth a surface of contact may be provided. The clutch may be provided with synchronizing means.
