A brace for bracing elements, such as legs 2 (Fig. 1) or 7 (Fig. 3) in an article of furniture, comprises a span member 4 or 13, a bracket part 3 or 12 secured to the span member and an adjustable clip part 1 or 11 carried by the bracket part and having a bight portion la or 11a which is adapted to embrace one of the legs 2 or 7 and is capable of diametrical contraction and expansion so as to allow the brace to be releasably connected to the leg, the adjustable clip part 1 or 11 being capable of movement in relation to the bracket part 3 or 12 so that it can accommodate itself to any inclination of the legs. As shown in Fig. 1, the clip part 1 is a worm drive clip tightened by a screw 6 which engages a series of grooves 6a in the clip part 1 so that the base part of a U-shaped bracket 3 is clamped to the leg 2. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the clip 11 is a circlip having a gap which is closed by tightening a screw 10 passing through lugs 14 projecting radially from the clip. The screw 10 also connects two flat plates 12, forming the bracket to the span member 13. The plates 12 are pivoted to the clips so they can be adapted to the inclination of the legs of the table.
