Abstract

934,585. Poultry battery units. EDMUND TAYLOR (ENGINEERS) Ltd. July 16, 1962 [July 14, 1961], No. 25507/61. Class 5(2). [Also in Groups XXIII and XXX] In a poultry battery unit of the type in which the cages 7 have open-work floors through which droppings fall on to imperforate platforms 6, the droppings being scraped to one end of the unit, a rigid collecting trough 16 is arranged transverse to the ends of the platforms; an endless chain 27 circulating lengthwise of the trough and having scraper blades 31 attached thereto for engagement with the base of the trough to move the droppings to an outlet at one end of the trough. The chain 27 is driven from a sprocket 24 driven through reduction gearing 22 from an electric motor 20 and the trough is set in a channel in the floor of the poultry house and is provided with adjustable feet 35. Scrapers 10 are moved over the platforms 6 by means of cords 11 attached to the drum of a winch 13 which may also serve to traverse along the framework a carriage provided with hoppers for filling feed troughs 14 mounted on the cages.
