Abstract
934,152. Making coffee beverage. E. VALENTE. Oct. 14, 1960 [Oct. 14, 1959], No. 35257/60. Class 129. A disc 10, Fig. 2, is rotatable about a vertical axis through 90 degrees steps by a pawl 17 engaging ratchet teeth on the disc and mounted on a sleeve 18 connected to a link 19 actuated by a differential piston-and-cylinder 3, the disc 10 carrying axially movable sleeves 25 receiving at a station 21 powdered coffee from a dispenser 9 and at a station 22 infusion water from a distributer shown in elevational view at 13, Fig. 3, and which is also under the control of the cylinder 3 whose smaller chamber 3<SP>1</SP> is continuously under pressure from a water supply 41 and whose larger chamber 3<SP>11</SP> communicates with the supply 41 via a manually controlled valve 42 and a non-return valve 8. A sector plate 15 attached to the distributer 13 acts as a base for the filled sleeves 25 and has at the position 22 a chamber 7<SP>1</SP> containing a piston 29 acting as a beverage-dispensing nozzle and which presses the coacting sleeve 25 against a gasket 26 during infusion, when a valve 30 feeds water from a boiler 29 simultaneously via a duct 39 to the distributer outlet 34 and via a duct 32 to the chamber 7<SP>1</SP> to warm the piston 29<SP>1</SP> and lift it against a spring 28. Strainers 35, 30<SP>1</SP> are provided. Any used coffee not dropping from the sleeves 25 as soon as they clear the plate 15 is ejected at a station 23, Fig. 2, by depression of a spring-loaded piston 59, Fig. 3, which also locks the disc between its movement periods. Operation.-Depression of a handle 44, Fig. 3, against a spring 45 opens the valve 42, the handle being retained depressed by a spring latch 45<SP>1</SP>. Water pressure is consequently applied (a) to a cylinder 2 to move a spring- loaded piston 47, which opens an outlet valve of the dispenser 9 and fills a sleeve 25 at station 21, (b) to a cylinder 53 to lift the piston 59 and (c) via the non-return valve 8 to the chamber 3<SP>11</SP> to operatively move the piston 40 to the left, causing a lug 38 thereon firstly to temporarily close contacts 56 and energize a solenoid 55 to depress a coffee-consolidating presser 54 at station 21 and secondly, when the sleeve 25 has arrived at station 22, to open a valve 4 connecting the supply 41 to a cylinder 6<SP>1</SP> to lift a spring-loaded piston 6 which both opens the valve 30 to effect infusion and releases the latch 45<SP>1</SP> via a lug 58, thus allowing the handle 44 to close the valve 42 and open a vent valve 43. Subsequent leakage of water pressure from the chamber 3<SP>1</SP> via an adjustable by-pass 57 of the valve 8 allows return of the piston 40, whereupon a lug 50 thereon opens a vent valve 5 to allow the piston 6 to drop so as to close the valve 30 and open a distributer vent valve 37.
