Abstract

a -Ethyl-tryptamine is prepared by the catalytic reduction of 3-(21-ethyl-21-nitrovinyl)-indole using a noble metal catalyst under basic or acidic reaction conditions. Two examples are given in which the catalysts used are (1) 5% palladium on carbon and (2) Adams platinum oxide catalyst; the product of Example 1 is the hydrochloride and of Example 2 the acetate. Specification 807,876 is referred to.
