Abstract

<P\1> In an apparatus primarily for making a synthetic resin insulating foam, the main fluid, e.g. hardener, is supplied under high pressure to a mixing chamber 2 from a straight pipe having been previously foamed with air by passage through a section of the supply pipe filled with glass beads. A solution or suspension of the resin (e.g. urea-formaldehyde) is injected under pressure through a nozzle 5 along the axis of the mixing chamber 2. A helically grooved plug 6 may be provided in the injection nozzle so that the material is discharged with great velocity and a rotary motion whereby it is quickly mixed with the hardener, and at an angle of distribution such that complete mixing takes place before the material reaches the mixing chamber walls. The mixing chamber may be enlarged to spherical form, and the extension 2a may be of reduced diameter as shown to connect with a hose, or may be formed as a discharge nozzle.
