932,883. Door closers. H. RUEF. Aug. 12, 1960, No. 27969/60. Class 65 (1). In an hydraulic door closer the flow of fluid is adjusted by relative rotation between the spring-loaded piston 8 and the cylinder 3, the piston rod 7 being rotatably mounted in a member 12 pivotally supported in a doublearmed lever 17 carrying a pressure roller 18. During the checking stroke fluid passes from one side of the piston to the other through a spiral groove 9 in the wall of the cylinder, a tapering groove 10 in the circumference of the piston, and a port 10<SP>1</SP> in the piston communicating with the groove 10. Various methods are described for securing the piston rod in its adjusted position relative to the member 12. The cylinder 3, which may itself be rotatable about its axis, is pivoted at 4 to a frame 1 for attachment to a door, the lever 17 also being pivoted in the frame.
