[Also in Group XXIX] A mechanism for controlling the supply of cooling liquid to brakes comprises a pump 2 supplying cooling liquid through a filter 8 to a valve mechanism 4 which operates, under the control of the hydraulic pressure supplied to the brake operating mechanism to supply cooling liquid via passages 12 and 11, through pipes 7a and 7c to the brake 3 and tank 1 respectively in definite proportions according to the hydraulic pressure in the brake operating mechanism. The valve mechanism 4, shown in detail in Fig. 2, distributes the cooling liquid between pipes 7a and 7c according to the hydraulic pressure in the lines 5 leading to the brake operating mechanism, the latter pressure acting against the end of a piston 15 which is advanced to cause movement of a spool valve 14 against spring 20 to vary the proportion of cooling liquid supplied through pipe 7b between pipes 7a and 7c. In order to equalize flow through the two passages 11 and 12 and the intermediate position of the spool valve 14, a tapping of the pressure of cooling liquid in the brake passage 12 is taken via duct 25 to one side of a shuttle 23 causing this to move downwards freely until the pressures on its opposite end faces are equal.
