Abstract

932,265. Clocks. HORSTMANN GEAR CO. Ltd. May 16, 1962 [June 1, 1961], No. 19779/61. Class 139. In order that a magnetic escapement 11, 15, 18 may be synchronized with an A.C. supply, the magnet 15 has an extension 21 which is located in the gap 21 of an electromagnet 23, 24 energized from the supply. In the repose position, the plane of the extension 21 is substantially in or parallel with the plane of the part 23. The magnet may carry a detent to prevent run-away of the escape wheel. The escape wheel is driven by a mainspring which is continuously wound so that on failure of the A.C. supply the escapement assumes complete control. The electromagnet winding may be connected to the supply through a half-wave rectifier.
