Abstract
932,146. Coating by vapour deposition. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. Jan. 25, 1962 [Jan. 25, 1961], No. 2953/62. Class 82. [Also in Group XXXV] An arrangement of insulating and conducting layers such as is used in a magnetic memory element comprises two outer layers of electrically conductive material such as permalloy 2 and 6 and a layer of silicon monoxide 4 which is sandwiched between two layers of aluminium 3 and 5 between the two outer layers of permalloy. The layers of permalloy, silicon monoxide and aluminium are formed by vapour deposition under vacuum and the aluminium may also be deposited by cathode sputtering or electrolytically. The permalloy layer may be formed on a glass base 1 to a thickness of 100 A and the aluminium layer should be at least 50 Š thick and the silicon monoxide 400 to 1000 A thick.
