Abstract

931,091. Air-heating systems and apparatus. J. F. McCALL. Sept. 11, 1959 [June 11, 1958], No. 18602/58. Classes 64 (2) and 64 (3). In an air - heating arrangement for a building, pre-cast refractory blocks 12 each having a central flue passage 13 and an air passage or passages 14 alongside but spaced from the flue passage, are assembled above a heat source 10 to provide a central flue surrounded by air-heating passages, the air flow from which is regulated by dampers. Circulated air may be forced through the air passages by a fan 29 or may flow through the passages by convection. In the arrangement shown, all the bedrooms B and living rooms L are arranged around the chimney unit. The arrangement is such that when the fan is on and dampers 31 in the rooms L are open, air is continuously recirculated by the fan through the air-heating passages 14 and rooms L. Grilles or dampers 30 in the bedrooms B are adapted to be closed by this downward flow of air through the airheating passages 14. When the fan is switchedoff the now partially warmed recirculated air may flow by convection upwardly through the passage 14 and into the bedrooms through grilles 30. A damper may be arranged in the flue passage.
