Abstract

Wool is dyed in an aqueous dye bath at substantially 60 DEG C., the bath containing an acid dyestuff, not more than 4% of the weight of the fibres of a substantially water-insoluble organic solvent and a dispersing agent selected from (nonyl-toluyl-methyl) trimethyl-ammonium chloride, trimethyl-myristyl-ammonium chloride, cetyl-dimethyl-benzyl-ammonium chloride, hexadecyl-trimethyl-ammonium chloride and N-cetyl-benzylamine hydrochloride, in a quantity sufficient to emulsify the solvent. Specified organic solvents are benzyl alcohol, butyl alcohol, amyl alcohol, amyl lactate, benzene, zylene, ethylene trichloride, tetrachlorethane, carbon tetrachloride, carvacrol, geraniol and the substances known under the Registered Trade Marks "Tetralin" and "Decalin".
