Abstract

929,934. Reversible windows. ALUMIN BUILDING COMPONENTS Ltd., and E. J. MILLS. Oct. 15, 1959 [July 16, 1958], No. 22814/58. Class 20 (3). A reversible window sash 3, Fig. 3, e.g. of extruded aluminium section and pivoted intermediate its sides or its top and bottom has on the inner peripheral faces of the window frame 2 one, or preferably two, parallel runs 1 of resilient weather striping, e.g. of rubber, synthetic rubber or plasticized P.V.C., making edgewise contact on the external convex peripheral surface of the sash 3. The pivots and window locking devices (not shown) are located between the two parallel runs. The runs may be on the external peripheral surface of the sash to make edge contact with the curved internal peripheral surface of the frame. To permit the escape of rain or moisture from between the base beading 11 of the strip accommodated in undercut grooves 8 in the frame members, the bottom 2a of the window frame has weep holes 13 communicating with longitudinal channels 14. One face of the flange 10 of the strip is located in the median perpendicular plane of the beading 11 and shallower flanges 12 on either side are spaced from the flange 10 by a distance equal to the thickness of a flange so that when the strips are reversed relatively and the flanges arranged end to end, the flanges can be interleaved with the median planes of the beading coinciding when the beadings are in the grooves 8. Only the sides of the window frame or sash may have the runs of weather strip and compression seals 19, Fig. 6, are located between the top members of the sash and window frames and between the bottom members of the two frames.
