928,926. Converting. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Feb. 10, 1961 [Feb. 12, 1960], No. 4987/61. Class 38 (2). In a polyphase current converter comprising a bridge connection of ionic rectifying elements 4 . . . 9 whose supply lines are interconnected by power factor capacitors 16, 17, 18, saturable reactors are provided in the supply lines between capacitor connections and the bridge, each saturable reactor having a main winding 13, 14, 15 carrying phase current and at least one bias winding 13<SP>1</SP>, 14<SP>1</SP>, 15<SP>1</SP>. By the arrangement a rectifying element which is just ceasing to conduct has time to become deionised. As shown the bias windings are also supplied with the phase current, and these windings have fewer turns than the main windings. With elements 4 and 9 conducting a main current J flows in the converter as shown. On commutation when the element 5 conducts a current i flows which does not affect the reactors 14 and 15 but reduces the current i flowing in the winding 13, until a stage is reached when the magnetisation is reversed and a current step occurs in the output current which allows time for deionisation.
