Abstract

[Also in Groups V, IX and XXVIII] A laminated tube is formed by placing a tube of tightly woven, thermoplastic fabric 7, e.g. of nylon, on a mandrel 8, applying a liquid binder, e.g. a neoprene cement with an isocyanate additive and then a rubber foil 9 covered by a temporary wrapping 10 and finally heating the whole to a temperature of 150‹ C. to 170‹ C. to vulcanize the rubber to the fabric. Subsequently the rubber surface may be ground smooth and a pattern may be heat-moulded in the fabric. In an alternate form the mandrel 8 may be patterned so that the patterning of the fabric occurs simultaneously with the vulcanizing. The finished tube is cut into short lengths to form textile drafting aprons and each length 14 is pushed over a mandrel 18 (see-Fig. 5) so that frayed ends of the thermoplastic fabric are sealed by contact with a heated, internally conical element 20.
