Abstract
927,748. Universal joints. LOHR & BROMKAMP G.m.b.H. March 13, 1962 [March 14, 1961], No. 9647/62. Class 80 (2). In a constant velocity universal joint where torque is transmitted by balls 10 in between opposed inner 7 and outer 8 grooves formed in the joint members such that the axis of each groove is in a plane containing the shaft axes, the ratio of the distance of the point of contact of the ball a, i from the centre of the joint Sa, Ri and from the centre of the ball sa, ri is the same for both inner and outer grooves, the distances being measured in the direction of a line joining the ball and joint centres. The balls are retained in a cage 11 between the partspherical surfaces 5, 6 of the inner and outer members 3, 4; the shaft 1 being splined to the inner member 3.
