927,520. Image receiving elements and products for colour diffusion transfer. INTERNATIONAL POLAROID CORPORATION. Aug. 21, 1961 [Nov. 25, 1960], No. 30110/61. Class 98 (2). A partial acetal of polyvinyl alcohol and trialkylammonium benzaldehyde quaternary salt, the trialkyl groups comprising not more than 8 carbon atoms, is included in the receiving element for use with sensitive materials containing colour-providing substances, particularly dye developers; and the products have this receiving element together with at least one such emulsion layer and a rupturable container of alkaline processing solution. These acetals function as mordants. Example 1 describes the preparation of p-butyldimethylamino benzaldehyde quaternary ammonium salt and reaction of this with a proprietary polyvinyl alcohol. Examples 2-4 coating preparations of the reaction product to form the receiving elements and Example 5 a control for comparison purposes; and full density comparison figures using red, green and blue filters after exposure with the three pairs of these colours, total exposure and no exposure and transfer processing with the receiving elements of Examples 2-5 are provided.
