Abstract

926,026. Electrosensitive recording paper. TIMEFAX CORPORATION. Dec. 13, 1960 [Jan. 11, 1960], No. 42904/60. Class 96. In producing electrosensitive recording paper comprising two or more plies, of which one or more are electrically conductive, beaten pulp 11 in a vat 10, e.g. ground wood, sulphite or soda pulp, bleached or unbleached, and, if desired, containing added colouring agent, is transferred by a mould roller 12 and coach roll 13 on to a lower travelling felt 14 which passes through a further pump applying device comprising a vat 15 containing pulp 16 to which a precisely determined amount of powdered conductive material has been added, e.g. carbon or graphite, and a layer of the pulp is applied over and mated with the white non-conductive layer already on the felt 14. The mated pulp batches then pass around a strain roller 17 and are contacted with an upper felt 18 before being passed between wet press rolls 19, 20, 21, 22, press rolls 23, a drier part 24 and a calendering unit 25. The final two-ply sheet 26 is black and conductive on one side and white and non-conductive on the other, is preferably 0.002 to 0.005 inches thick, 80%, approximately, of the thickness being conductive, its resistance being suitably 500 to 5000 ohms. A thin masking electrically removable coating, preferably of slightly higher resistance and incorporating whitish or light hued material, e.g. as described in Specification 760,675, may be applied over the conductive ply surface; alternatively, by including a further pulp applying device, the paper machinery may be modified to provide an additional, i.e. third, conductive ply, e.g. of higher resistance, e.g. 1000 to 8000 ohms, over which the masking coating may be applied.
