925,656. Determining levels of fluent materials. THOMAS INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION Ltd. Aug. 17, 1959 [Sept. 12, 1958], No. 29262/58. Class 37. A detecting element for a capacitive type measuring apparatus comprises two parallel conductors each of uniform circular section throughout its length and supported by mounting means, the two conductors being separated by the width of a thin web of insulating material which is also of uniform section throughout its length. Figs. 1, 2 show an element comprising a rigid conductor 1 supporting a smaller conductor 3 by means of a web 2 of insulating material. The detector may be mounted as shown for use as a level detector for powder or granular material, the conductor 1 being earthed so that accumulation of powder on its upper surface will not give erroneous indication. The detector may be inverted for use with viscous fluids. Fig. 3 shows a vertical detector comprising wires 5, 6 of the same diameter moulded into the edges of a web 7 of insulating material. The Specification refers to mounting means 8 and tensioning of the web 7 by means of a weight 9.
