Abstract

925,364. Typewriters. MINNESOTA MINING & MANUFACTURING CO. July 29, 1960 [July 30, 1959], No. 26559/60. Class 100 (4). Cleaning type.-A type cleaning arrangement comprises a sheet 1 which is inserted in a typewriter and typed on until the types are clear. The sheet comprises a flexible backing layer 1 carrying a flexible binder coating 3, a fuzzy layer 4 of erect spaced-apart flock fibres whose inner tips are embedded in the binder coating and which are coated with an ink-receptive adhesive. The sheet may be Kraft paper on a thin film and have an anti-slip back coating 2, e.g. butadiene-styrene copolymer, the binder coating comprising an aqueous dispersion of plasticized thermosetting ureaformaldehyde resin and an aqueous dispersion of polyvinyl acetate. The flock fibres 4 may be viscose-rayon of 1.5 to 10 denier value and not packed together. They are coated with a fibre-sizing adhesive which is rubbery and highly cohesive, e.g. rubbery polyisobutylene, tacky polyisobutylene, a pure hydrocarbon terpene tackifier resin, a rosin ester tackifier resin and ditertiary-aml hydroquinone compounded together in a volatile solvent. This is applied as a thin coating on the fibres and the underlying coating without clogging up the interstices between the fibres.
