Abstract

The invention comprises a process for the preparation of a steroid having the partial formula: <FORM:0925246/IV(a)/1> in which there is one additional double bond in the 6(7), 8(9) or 9(11) position by heating a corresponding steroid having the partial formula: <FORM:0925246/IV(a)/2> in which there is one additional double bond in the 6(7), 8(9) or 9(11) position with zinc in an aliphatic alcohol having 2 to 6 carbon atoms, an aliphatic dihydric alcohol or benzyl alcohol. The Specification refers to a large number of reactants that may be used in the above process and the corresponding products obtainable therefrom.
